Britain Fuel Protests

Police in Britain have moved swiftly to break-up a go-slow protest by drivers upset over gasoline prices.

The drivers planned to use a convoy to slow traffic to a snail's pace. But police intervened and got them moving along more like rabbits.

The convoy of about 70 trucks, 30 buses and a host of taxis and private cars clogged a major highway in Wales. But police ordered all of them into the slow lane and ordered them to speed up to 40 miles-an-hour.

A protest spokesman says that turned the convoy into "a bit of a farce."

Gasoline costs nearly seven dollars a gallon in Britain. And about half that is taxes.
