FEMA Storm Aid

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Alabamians who suffered losses during last month's severe storms and tornadoes have received more than $7.2 million in federal and state money.

FEMA said as of Dec. 12, 1,156 people have applied for assistance, mainly to get temporary housing, replace lost possessions or to make emergency repairs to their homes.

Most of the government assistance was doled out in eight counties, Walker County topped the list with 575 applicants receiving almost $1.2 million.

Henry County was second with 158 people getting almost $265,000 in storm-related aid.

The deadline to apply for assistance is January 13th. Those eligible include people in 29 Alabama counties declared federal disaster areas because of storm and tornado damage.
