Smoke filled the sky in Downtown Dothan late Monday afternoon as a large building goes up in flames.
The fire destroyed a house that was converted into nine apartments in a historic area of the city.
Just after 2:30 PM, Dothan Fire Department responded to the 400 block of South Saint Andrews Street to initial reports of a stove fire.
The fire was so well advanced that firefighters had to battle the flames from the outside.
Rescue workers were told by people on the scene that a disabled woman lived in one apartment and those first on the scene were able to rescue her.
Others watched as their homes and possessions inside burned to the ground.
Captain Chris Etheridge says there are no initial reports of deaths or injuries at this point.
