An Alabama judge has sentenced a Crenshaw County man to death for killing 6-members of his ex- girlfriend's family.
On Friday, Circuit Judge Ed McFerrin decided to override a jury's recommendation of life without parole for Westley Devon Harris. Judge McFerrin sentenced the 25-year-old Harris to death for the 2002 crime. Attorney General Troy King had encouraged McFerrin to impose the death penalty. However, the judge said it was not an easy decision because of his personal beliefs.
Harris was convicted of killing 6-members of Janice Ball's family at their rural farm in Rutledge during a killing spree on August 26th, 2002. Harris then ran away for 3-days with Janice Ball and their child.
The crime is said to be the worst shooting homicide in recent Alabama history.
