Riley Chooses DOT Head

A long-time Montgomery business executive has been chosen to head the Alabama Department of Transportation during the administration of Governor-elect Bob Riley.

Riley has named Joe McInnes to be his Transportation Director.

McInnes was an executive for 25 years with Blount International. He retired in 1999 after serving as the firm's executive vice president and chief administrative officer. He has also served as chairman, chief executive officer and director of the Blount Cultural Park in Montgomery.

Riley said he expects McInnes to carry out his plan to revamp the department and remove politics from road building decisions. Riley plans to work with the Alabama Legislature to set up a commission that would run the department.

McInnes said he's committed to making the Transportation Department efficient and effective.
