A pre-dawn raid by state and local agents on a home in northern Coffee County resulted in the seizure of the highly addictive narcotic, along with the chemicals used in its manufacture.
Just after midnight, Coffee County sheriff's deputies, Eterprise Police, and agents with the Alabama Beverage Commission raided a home, located off Highway 167 North.
It's located in Coffee County's rural Clintonville community. Inside they found crystal meth in various stages of development. In addition, several booby-trap explosives were defused by bomb squad personnel.
The alleged meth cooker and home occupant, Jeffrey Scott Maddox, was not inside.
Authorities also found a host of firearms, and thousands of dollars worth of reported stolen property.
Investigator Tony Harrison, with the Coffee Co. Sheriff's Dept. said, "This is typical with stolen property. The meth maker or user will use the stolen property to pawn for money in order to buy the chemicals needed in making the drug, or actually using the stolen items for money for meth."
With evidence of a baby living in the home, Maddox may face child endangerment along with the drug and stolen property charges.
If you see Jeffrey Scott Maddox, contact your nearest law enforcement agency immediately. He has a history of drug related arrests.
