Work is expected to begin on a long awaited downtown sidewalk project in Elba.
The city contacted with an Auburn construction company will have 120-days to complete phase one of the project.
The project includes new sidewalks in the downtown square on all four sides of the Coffee County Courthouse.
The effort will replace sidewalks that are more than a century-old. It is broken in many places and are considered a risk especially for the elderly.
Phase two of the sidewalk project is expected to get underway later this year.
It'll extend the improved sidewalks in several directions from the square.
