4-year-old Mauled by Pit Bull in Dothan

DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a 4 year old boy was critically injured after being mauled by a pit bull in a Dothan neighborhood.

The attack happened yesterday afternoon at a home on Ussery Street.

Dothan police said the canine attacked Caleb Hunter Woods' head, lacerating his face and neck.

The boy was taken to Southeast Alabama Medical Center - his condition was not immediately available.

Police are trying to determine what provoked the attack. Animal control officers seized the dog and place the animal in a local shelter.

hello to all of those who have read the adds on the pit that attacted the 4yr. old boy in dothan. That boy is my son, to all of those who don't know, my son was supervised. The person who had owned the two dogs is my bestfriend and babysitter for the past year and a half. Caleb my son had asked to go down stairs to my friends house and i said yes. He had asked if he could go out side to play and wasn't out side for no more than maybe five to ten minutes when the attack happened. he had been playing with the dogs which he has for the past several months and had pushed the pit away from jumping on him which i beleave made the pit turn on him. The collie on the other hand was trying to save him. She had his sleave in her mouth trying to tug him away from the pit. My friend is the one who rescuded him and i thank her and everyone else for thier prayers and for standing by my side. Caleb is doing fine, his come back looks like it never happened except for the stiches that he has in his face.

It is very sad when a child or anyone for that matter get bit by a dog. Its not the breed its the deed. I have a 4 year old son and 4 Pitbulls in my yard, all dogs have teeth. Its not just one breed. I bet if a yorkie bit someone it wouldnt make the news. There is no actual study to prove a pitbull are any more dangerous than the rest. When you own one then judge.

THIS IS VERY SAD THAT A CHILD WAS HURT BUT ALL PIT BULLS ARE NOT DANGEROUS! PARENTS HAVE TO BEWARE OF ALL DOGS, ESPECIALLY IF IT'S NOT YOUR DOG! PARENTS I DON'T UNDERSTAND, I HAVE AN 3 YEAR OLD AND I WATCH HIM, EVERYWHERE HE GOES! CHILDREN ARE CHILDREN NOT ADULTS AND THEY NEED YOUR SUPERVISION, ALL THE TIME! ACCIDENT HAPPEN IN A SPLIT SECOND. YOU CAN NOT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF TODDLERS! THEY KNOW NO DANGER! I AM SO TIRED OF READING ABOUT CARELESS ACCIDENT TO TODDLERS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF ADULTS WATCH THEIR KIDS EVERY SECOND OF THE DAY! WE OWE THEM THAT!

bad neighborhood. STill, the owners of the dog should have him put down immediately and pay 100% of the boys expenses! That boy is now traumatized and scarred for life!

Well pitbulls do alot of attacking on humans, especially children. THis is not the first time a pit bull has been guilty of attacking.

Pit bull owners should have to go to the police station and register this vicious animal just like a sex offender has to register they should not be able to have this dog anywhere close to where there are children. I think this owner should be held accountable for this attack. Not only should this dog be put down the owner should be punished by a court of law. This will forever be with this precious child.

"Pit Bull Attacks Child in Dothan" No mention of the collie in the headlines which makes it sound like a single "Pit Bull" (which is not an actual breed of dog) was the only one involved in the attack. More media headline bias.
