The Bush Administration has agreed to ask Congress for more money to help cover the healthcare costs of veterans.

Last week, it was revealed that there was a $1 billion shortfall in the program.

Democrats have blamed the president, saying his focus on the war in Iraq has created, "a crisis" for the nation's veterans. California Congressman Sam Farr says, "it's distressing."

Before the announcement, Democratic lawmakers were going to introduce a spending amendment to add more money to the program.

Earlier Wednesday, the Senate scheduled a vote on a proposal to add $1.5 billion to the veterans' budget. Veterans Affairs Secretary Jim Nicholson says he'll work the numbers and come up with a specific amount needed later this week.
