MONTGOMERY - The race for lieutenant governor next year could feature two of the biggest family names in Alabama political history: Wallace and Folsom.
George Wallace Jr. announced he's planning to run as a Republican. Friends of Jim Folsom Jr. said he's considering entering as a Democrat.
Wallace, in an interview with the Associated Press, said the potential matchup would be interesting and historic. He is wrapping up his second four-year term on the Alabama Public Service Commission.
Folsom was unavailable for comment, but several friends said he is giving the Lt. Governor's race serious thought.
Former Governor Don Siegelman, who is looking at running for another term, said he and Folsom talk regularly and he has encouraged Folsom to get back into public service. But he said he doesn't believe Folsom has made a decision about seeking office next year.
