BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- A mother and grandmother are out of jail in Birmingham after prosecutors dropped charges accusing them of trading the mother's 11-year-old son to a man for cash and crack cocaine.
Circuit Judge Tommy Nail dismissed the charges Monday at the request of prosecutors.
Cleared were 52-year-old Alesha Ann Abram; her daughter, 32-year-old Amber Michelle Abram, and 36-year-old Cleveland Andre Joiner.
The Birmingham News reported the action came after defense attorneys questioned the boy's credibility and the judge suppressed statements by the defendants.
The two women had been in jail since their arrest in March 2011 on human trafficking, sodomy and child sex abuse charges.
They were released Monday.
Joiner had been out on bond since May 2011.
