The Hartford City Council learned it does not qualify for a community development block grant.
The residential income is above the threshold. The block grants are geared for communities that fall below the poverty level. But, there is still hope. Hartford officials can apply for a rural development package that will include a grant along with a low-interest loan.
City officials want to replace the 80-year-old roof at the Johnny Hughes Community Center and the roof at the police department. The estimated cost to replace both will be about $125,000. A grant writing firm will look into whether Hartford qualifies for the rural assistance package.
