Man Pleads Guilty To Making False Report

A Geneva County man pled guilty to charges related to staging his own shooting.

Greg Hatcher of Hartford pled guilty to obstruction of a governmental operation and filing a false report to law enforcement.

For a six-month suspended jail sentence, Hatcher will reimburse the Geneva County Sheriff's Department $750,000 for its effort involved in the investigation. Hatcher must also pay court costs.

Authorities say Hatcher created the ploy last December in order to gain sympathy from family.

Geneva/Dale County District Attorney Kirk Adams considers the case closed.

Judge lest not ye be judged. "Just Wondering" is correct in "What goes around comes around" (even though they can't spell) and God forbid nothing like this ever comes around to any of you. The Hatchers probably never thought they'd be in this boat, either. You just never know!

Mr. Hatcher should pay all the money back to Geneva County. The guy who shot him should also do jail time.

750K for trying to gain sympathy. What a price to pay for stupidity. Dr Phil or Oprah could have helped his cause if he had sought higher counseling. Wake up men. This is the price of being stupid. I wonder how much sympathy this has garnered from his family? Probably have to sell the farm to make the payment. I bet Joe is so proud of his youngest son.

Real good job Mr Adams. You have shown that just because you are a Hatcher you are not above the law. Hartford cops think that cause you have a certain name than you don't have to go by the law here. Glad you picked it up and showed Hatcher that he isn't. Wished Hartford cops was that way.
