Kenya Abandoned Baby Update

"Mkombozi" or "Savior"

Hospital officials in Kenya say people are eager to adopt an abandoned newborn girl who was saved by a stray dog.

They say the publicity over the canine rescue has drawn a lot of public interest in the girl's future.

The infant is being called "Angel" by health care workers who are treating her for exposure and an umbilical cord infection.

The dog that rescued Angel is also getting medical care. She's been nicknamed "Savior," and has been bathed and de-wormed.

Residents who found the baby Friday say the dog dragged the newborn in a plastic bag across a busy street, through barbed wire, to a shed where the dog was caring for her own puppies.

The puppies have since died for unknown reasons, said Jean Gilchrist of the Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals.
