Courthouse Shooting

Prosecutors in Atlanta have given courthouse shooting suspect Brian Nichols official notice that they will seek the death penalty in his case.

Nichols is charged in the March shooting deaths of a judge and two other people at the Fulton County Courthouse, where Nichols allegedly overpowered a guard and took her weapon. Authorities also say Nichols then shot and killed another man later in the day.

The judge also set May 17 as the arraignment date for Nichols, on charges that include murder, kidnapping, robbery and escape.

Still pending are hearings for a gag order and a motion to remove the district attorney for public comments the defense finds objectionable.
