Fort Rucker Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

FORT RUCKER, Ala. (AP) - Military officials said Wednesday a Fort Rucker soldier from Georgia was killed in action in Afghanistan.

According to a statement from Fort Rucker, 29-year-old Staff Sergeant Donald T. Tabb, of Norcross, Georgia, was killed around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Other details of the death were not immediately available.

Tabb was serving with the 6th Military Police Detachment, 13th Aviation Regiment. He was a dog handler serving in Afghanistan with the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force.

He is survived by his mother, Gloria Smith of Lawrenceville, Georgia.

A memorial service is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the Fort Rucker Main Post Chapel.

Tabb's death remains under investigation.

    Donald Tabb was a great person and he will be truly missed. Love ya! This War needs to end, as we are losing a lot of lives as its result.

    He was a fine young man and Soldier. I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with his mom and the heartache she is feeling right now. Rest in peace SSG Tabb.
