Millions of dollars in labor will be spent in the communities surrounding Fort Rucker on a new housing program for the post. Almost 1, 500 military families who currently live in outdated houses, built during World War II, will have newly constructed and renovated homes by 2010.
The project will be funded by federal grants of more than 500 million dollars. According to the Chief Executive Officer of Picerne Military Housing, 80 percent of that money will go back into the communities surrounding Fort Rucker. Groundbreaking for the project is slated for April 2006.
