Contractor and Union Reach Agreement

Thousands of members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers went back to work under a new 3 year contract.

The new contract was approved on Sunday, and the communities surrounding Fort Rucker are relieved an agreement has been reach and a possible strike avoided.

With the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) selection approaching quickly, those who were worried about Fort Rucker's future are very relieved. Governor Bob Riley said, "I want to say that we don't know how we're going to come out. But I think we wil do better because of the local support. I think we'll do better because of the quality of life we have here. I think we'll do better because of the leadership we've had."

The BRAC decision is scheduled to be announced on May 16th. However, the list may be leaked as early as the Wednesday before that date.
