BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Authorities are reporting scattered damage and a few injuries from a line of strong storms moving through Alabama.
Walker County emergency management director Johnny Burnette says an apparent tornado damaged eight homes near the Corona community before dawn Wednesday. A pregnant woman suffered a broken arm when a trailer home was tossed by the winds.
Trees and power lines also were reported down in Lamar and Fayette counties. Forecasters issued tornado warnings for areas including Sylacauga, but there were no immediate reports of damage.
At least three school systems have canceled classes rather than have children on the road as the line passed.
The storms are part of a system that killed at least 44 people in Tennessee, Arkansas and Kentucky.
