Florida Beach and Surf Patrol are doing their part to keep people safe at the beach with a new flag warning system. A 2003 Florida law encourages a uniform system of 5 beach flags: green for calm, yellow for caution, red for danger, two reds for closure and purple for hazardous marine life.
Bay County and Panama City Beach had been using their own 3 flag system. Local officials decided to change after neighboring counties adopted the state's 5 flag warning earlier this year.
