Gov. Don Siegelman has awarded over $50,000 to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
The grant will allow the department to purchase 30 computers and install a software program to keep close track of evidence turned over to the state's nine laboratories.
The program will also assist forensic specialists in determining priority of evidence testing.
The Alabama Department of Forensics Sciences performs scientific investigations in suspicious deaths and criminal matters. The evidence often plays a major role in determining if and how a crime has been committed.
Siegelman awarded the grant through a U.S. Department of Justice Program.
