The School Cast Alert System is designed to call thousands of phone numbers in a matter of minutes to notify parents of the threat of hazardous weather.
The Dothan City Schools will conduct a test call between 7 and 8PM Thursday evening. A mass calling will be made to every number the school has on file to contact parents.
The School Cast System will be a recorded message by Superintendent Sam Nichols, with information concerning early dismissals and school closings.
In a test call made to faculty, the program successfully made over 900 calls in two minutes. If your number is busy, the system will call back three times.
"If parents have more than one child in our school system they can expect more than one call; it will access the database for every student in the system," says Nichols.
The School Cast System is not limited to severe weather notification.
"There are other uses that can be school based, ya’ know principals can notify employees, or coaches can notify ball players, whatever database you have in the system the capability is there to notify those in a timely manor," said Nichols
Parents can expect a test call Thursday evening between 7 and 8PM; if you do not receive a call you are asked to contact your child's school and check the number they have on file.
