Florida Inmate Murder Trial Begins

Testimony began Tuesday in the trial of a Florida state inmate accused in the premeditated murder of his cellmate.

34-year-old Johnny Reed is charged with strangling Donald Williams to death at the Washington Correctional Institution near Chipley in November of 2006.

Reed is a member of the White Aryan Nation

The 46-year-old victim was African-American.

The defense blames the crime on the Florida prison system for locking the two men in the same cell.

If Reed is convicted of first-degree murder, the state plans to seek the death penalty.
