Court documents say an abducted nine-year-old Florida girl may have been alive when police first questioned residents at a mobile home where the suspect lived.
Citrus County police stopped twice at the mobile home of John Couey's half-sister after Jessica Lunsford was abducted from her bed. She was later killed.
Couey is a convicted sex offender and had been staying at the mobile home. Police didn't learn that until the second trip to the house. And they say Couey later told them he was hiding in the home during their second visit.
Court papers say that Couey denies "that anyone else in the house was aware that he had kidnapped the child or that she was being held in the house."
Lunsford was found sexually assaulted and buried near the mobile home after her father reported her missing in February.
