A registered sex offender who authorities say confessed to murdering a 9-year-old Florida girl now says he's innocent.
John Couey entered a written plea on Monday.
He's charged with capital murder, burglary with battery, kidnapping and sexual battery on a child less than 12 years of age in the death of Jessica Lunsford of Homosassa.
Couey was living across the street from the girl when she disappeared from her bedroom the night of Feb. 21.
Authorities say he confessed and told detectives where to find Jessica's body.
Couey's public defender says the defendant is invoking his constitutional right to remain silent, so there will be no comments to the media.
Prosecutors say they'll seek the death penalty.
