Work Release Inmate Escapes from Chilton County Worksite

CLANTON, Ala. (AP) - Authorities in Chilton County have been looking for a work release inmate who fled from his work place at the county courthouse in a stolen car.

Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis believes Warren Roman Nix stole car keys from a purse belonging to a clerk at the Probate Office. Davis said the theft occurred between 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. yesterday.

Authorities said Nix was serving time for a theft conviction and was in the custody of a courthouse custodian instead of a sheriff's deputy. The sheriff also said Nix is a Chilton County native from the New Convert community.

Deputies spent most of the night looking for the suspect.
