The former Boy Scouts of America official accused of receiving child pornography through the Internet is due in federal court in Fort Worth, Texas today.
Officials say Douglas Sovereign Smith had been the director of a national task force on protecting children from sexual abuse. The program was viewed as a national model.
The 61-year old is charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.
According to agency officials, the pictures don't involve any Boy Scouts.
A spokesman says Smith was employed by the Boy Scouts for 39 years and there was "no indication of prior criminal activity."
His lawyer says Smith is "a good man" and shouldn't have his entire life defined by this one incident.
