When the temperatures drop in the nighttime, some homeless people seek shelter in unsafe buildings.
Many of those buildings have no heat and so vagrants start fires to keep warm posing serious fire hazards.
Not only do these fires pose a problem to houses near them, but also to fire fighters.
Many of these abandoned homes are not structurally sound so when fire fighters go in to extinguish the fire they are at serious risk of physical injury and possible entrapment.
To report a house in your neighborhood that you believe is unsafe and poses a hazard to your community you can contact the Dothan Permit and License Department at 615-4450.
