Opp Youngster Dies in ATV Accident

OPP, Ala. (AP) - A weekend accident involving an all terrain vehicle accident killed an Opp boy and sent three others to the hospital.

Police were summoned to a vacant lot late Saturday afternoon after receiving a call of an overturned ATV.

A family friend identified the boy as Colby Lane Ramer, a fourth grader at South Highlands Elementary School. Ramer, along with the three other 10-year-olds, was riding a "mule-style" ATV when the accident occurred. The family friend said they believe Colby was driving and the other occupants were riding in the back when it flipped over.

Ramer was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three juveniles were transported to a local hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

this is so sad. ten years old and gone.totally senseless. people need to use common sense and there are laws in place for a reason regarding children and atv's. we have a neighbor(an older man)that drives his up and down the roads(paved & public),day & night, drives on the wrong side of the road and refuses to move off the pavement when you are driving in a vehicle towards him. at times he has a child with him and no helmets.children think this is ok because they see an adult doing it. please set a better example. learn the the law and practice it.
