New Program Teaches Kids Healthy Eating

Alabama’s child obesity numbers are among the highest in the country, and the state leads with the highest levels of overweight adults.

The Alabama Department of Education, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama, and others came together to bring a kid-friendly school curriculum to teach Alabama’s youth about living healthy.

The program brings academics together with physical education so that kids can learn how to exercise and why it’s important to eat healthy.

Its now in its second rollout and by the end of the year will have trained 660 teachers in public schools across the state.

Officials plan to expand "WAY" the next couple years, and expect it to be fully integrated in the Alabama’s public school system in the next 5 years.
