Mental Evaluation Ordered for Man Charged With Wife's Murder

A bond hearing for a Wiregrass man charged with killing his wife turned into a psychological evaluation at the Houston County Courthouse.

42-year-old James Chumney has been behind bars since his wife, Christine, was shot to death in August of last year.

District Attorney Doug Valeska says Chumney has refused numerous times to submit to a mental review.

But Tuesday, Judge Ed Jackson allowed Chumney and family members to meet with a psychologist in an effort to determine Chumney's mental state.

The bond hearing has been continued while court officials await results from the mental evaluation.
