Atlanta Church Abuse

Three members of the House of Prayer and their pastor are expected to report for jail Friday. A Fulton County Superior Court judge denied their request for bond Thursday.

The members have hired Atlanta attorney Ed Garland to represent them as they pursue a new trial.

The Reverend Arthur Allen Jr. and four church members rejected legal council before their trial and were convicted this month in the whipping of two boys at the northwest Atlanta church in February 2001.

The Judge Jackson Bedford sentenced 70-year-old Allen to 90 days in jail and 10 years of probation. Charles Ogletree, Emanuel Hardemann, David Duncan and Sharon Duncan received similar sentences. Sharon Duncan will not report for her jail time until after her husband serves his time.
