Judge Puts Sibley Execution on Hold

Death Penalty

A federal judge has put Thursday's execution of convicted murdered George Sibley on hold. U.S. District Judge Harold Albritton issued a stay late Thursday afternoon.

Sibley had been scheduled to be the first person executed in Alabama by lethal injection.

Sibley's common-law wife, 54-year-old Lynda Lyon Block, was executed on May 10. She was possibly the last person to die in Alabama's electric chair.

Sibley and Block were sentenced to death for the October 1993 killing of Opelika police officer Roger Motley Jr.
