A Walker County toddler is safe at home tonight after a lab mix named Sasha came to his rescue.
Two-year-old Mitch LaChance wandered away from home this morning
and got lost in the woods. Firefighters, police and neighbors spent four hours looking for him. But no one found anything until Sasha joined the search.
The three-legged dog led her owner to the child. Sasha found him amid thorns in a ravine, more than a mile from his home.
Sasha's owner, Gary Hagood, says the dog was picked up as a stray about a year ago. She lost her leg when she was hit by a car.
The toddler's dad, Ron Lachance, says it's obvious now why Sasha
deserved a second chance at life.
