Some firefighters in Geneva County are at odds with the county's commission chairman. At the center of the dispute is a proposed fire tax.
Geneva County Volunteer Firefighters Association President Kyle Hovey is burning mad.
County commission chairman and Probate Judge Harry Adkison is on a campaign. Adkison opposes a fire tax that will appear on Tuesday's Geneva County ballot.
A proposed annual $30 property tax would be divided between the county's volunteer fire and rescue services.
State Forester Ronnie Hickman challenged Adkison to come up with a better funding formula, that's if the referendum fails.
The proposed fire tax would annually generate $350,000 for the county's emergency services.
Last year, a similar fire tax was approved in Houston County.
