President Bush, in welcoming newly elected members of Congress, says he is hoping Republicans and Democrats can work together to "achieve big things for the good of the country."

The president says Capitol Hill is still too divided along party lines, but he's hoping to change that.

Among the big issues confronting the new Congress is the president's plan to partially privatize retirement benefits, and the massive spending commitment to help Asia recover from the earthquake and tsunami.

With several incoming members of Congress being related to other politicians, the president joked about having first-hand knowledge about following in a family member's footsteps.
