Serial Robber Suspect Caught

A Eufaula man, whom authorities believe is one of three men wanted for a rash of multi-state robberies, was recently taken into custody.

Police in Dothan said 20-year-old Clifford Antonio Screws was arrested Friday afternoon at his home.

Screws is charged with first-degree robbery -- he's in the Houston County Jail, with bail set at $100,000.

Dothan Police Chief John White said Screws is cooperating. Law officers said his arrest is part of a three-month investigation of more than 20 armed holdups in south Alabama and west Georgia.

The robbers targeted convenience stores, Video Warehouse stores and hotels. Police said the suspects were difficult to track because they would often remove video surveillance tapes from businesses.

White also said additional arrests are expected soon.
