Monday, Jackson County Sheriff John McDaniel found the body of a man who was killed last week.
The man's girlfriend has reportedly confessed to the murder.
Sheriff McDaniel received a call from a preacher on Monday who told him he had an urgent domestic violence issue, and when the sheriff told the preacher he should call one of the deputies, he said, "No, this issue involves a murder."
Chipps Drive, less than a mile from I-10 in Jackson County was where a preacher led Sheriff McDaniel to a house. There, a man’s body had remained since December 26th after being shot by his girlfriend, Sue Ann Cole.
“Rescue; we're going to have to do something to truly determine that this man has been killed. He says he was killed the day after Christmas," Sheriff McDaniel said.
The sheriff said there had been several calls to the residence prior to last week, and locally, service station attendants remarked that the victim, who has not been identified to this point, had numerous arguments and fights with Cole.
"He died of a gunshot wound. It was from all indications a shotgun blast to the midsection of the body and the autopsy was done this morning in Tallahassee," Sheriff McDaniel said.
The body of the victim was found in a small wooden shed outside of the victim’s home. The time has caused the body to decompose, making identification difficult.
McDaniel added, "First, [we] started talking to her; needless to say she was in hysteria or crying. She was remorseful about what had occurred. She didn’t know when to talk or not to talk; she looked at the preacher and looked at me and then when I read her her rights, she said I think I'd better talk to my lawyer.""
There are some who wonder about confidentiality when it comes to the preacher. Cole simply went to him for advise, and he told her before they did anything else, they needed to contact the authorities.
Cole is currently at the Jackson County Jail. She will be arraigned before a magistrate on Monday.
