Senior Rx Program

prescription

Regional Council on Aging officials are still hoping for some financial help to expand a prescription drug program that can save senior citizens millions of dollars each year.

The Senior Rx Program helps the elderly apply for free medication from drug companies. The process is confusing and can take hours because some seniors have more than a dozen prescriptions and each requires a separate application.

The Alabama Legislature set aside $1.5 million to fund the new program statewide.

Three workers with the Southern Area Regional Council On Aging have already handled more than 2,500 applicants in just a few weeks. So county and city governments across the Wiregrass are being asked for $200,000 to hire more workers and help thousands of senior citizens.
