Pryor Nominated Again

President Bush again nominated former Alabama Attorney General Bill Pryor to a federal appeals court on Monday.

Pryor received a recess appointment on the 11th Circuit Court from Bush after Democrats blocked his nomination. That appointment expires at the end of this year. U-S Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama says he is pleased but not surprised by Bush's decision. He says the earlier opposition to Pryor was "driven by misinformation and politics."

Pryor had support from a majority of senators. But he fell short of the 60 votes necessary to avoid a Democratic filibuster that blocked his floor vote because of their concerns about his stances on abortion and gay rights.

Pryor was among 20 judicial nominees Bush sent to the Senate
on Monday.
