Panama City Students Who Overdosed on Antidepressant Are Expelled

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) - Five Arnold High School students who overdosed on an antidepressant at school have been expelled.

Bay County, Florida, District Schools Superintendent James McCalister had recommended that they be expelled. The school board then unanimously approved the expulsion.

Authorities say the students were "like zombies" and some ingested as many as seven pills of the antidepressant Elavil in late November. The problem was discovered after a student left a classroom to go to the restroom and returned to the wrong room.

The five students were tenth and 11th-graders. They were hospitalized briefly.
