Talks of taking out a loan to improve Dale County Schools have been on the chopping block for weeks, and members of the school board met once again to discuss its funding.

It was another typical day for students at Midland City Elementary; reading, writing and leaky roofs.

Parent Diana Webb said, "I would feel alright about paying extra money for the safety of everyone in the school, 'cause if it gets wet enough, any ceiling, you know the roof’s going to collapse."

Webb has a daughter who attends Midland City Elementary and says she doesn't care about the costs to fix Dale County Schools. She is just concerned about the safety of the students. "I am all for borrowing the money if that’s what it takes to keep everyone safe," she added.

Dale County School Board members have been going back and forth about whether or not to take out a $4.5 million dollar loan to fix all Dale County Schools, with G.W. Long and Midland City Elementary being at the top of the list.

Three board members are for it and two are against it.

Superintendent Phillip Parker says fixing all the problems at once would be the better route to take. "I don't want to come back two or three years later and be doing the same thing that we're doing now,” he says. “I feel like anything less than $4.5 million is not adequate for Long or any of our other schools. "

A meeting was held Tuesday night to open the floor for more discussion on the plan, though Parker says no plan would be made.

For Diana Webb, she just hopes something will be done soon.

Parker says he hopes to have something settled by the beginning of the year.
