Tuesday marked the 88th-Anniversary of one of the most prominent landmarks' in the Wiregrass.
On December 11th, 1919, the Boll Weevil Monument was dedicated in downtown Enterprise.
The monument was constructed in gratitude for the 1915 Boll Weevil invasion that destroyed the cotton crop that year and forced farmers to grow peanuts, which proved very profitable during World War I.
The monument is under constant surveillance by a police camera monitoring system. It’s been nicknamed the "Weevil Cam".
Authorities say it has cut down on the incidents of pranks and malicious damage.
The Boll Weevil Monument is believed to be the only statue in the world dedicated to a bug.
