Federal environmental officials have overruled objections filed by the state of Michigan and approved Alabama's air permit for the $1 billion Hyundai plant being built near Montgomery.
Michigan officials filed their opposition to the permit last week, arguing that Alabama's lax environmental regulations were unfairly luring automakers to the state.
An official with the Environmental Protection Agency said comments about Alabama's plan were "not significant."
