Entertainer Bill Cosby is the target of a police investigation in suburban Philadelphia.
The probe stems from an allegation lodged against him by a female acquaintance.
Authorities in Cheltenham Township, Pennsylvania, are not commenting on the case, but an attorney for Cosby says it amounts to "inappropriate touching." Lawyer Walter Phillips also says the allegation is "utterly preposterous."
The woman lives in Durham, Ontario, 25 miles from Toronto. She told local authorities about a sexual assault that allegedly occurred in the United States a year ago. Canadian authorities referred the matter to authorities in Cheltenham where Cosby owns a home.
Cosby has postponed four appearances in Cleveland and Florida, but a spokesman won't say whether the allegations prompted the cancellations.
