Preliminary data collected by the Federal Bureau of Investigation indicates Dothan has experienced a crime rate reduction by two-and-a-half percent for the fiscal year of 2007.
Preliminary reports have violent crime down across the board in Dothan despite no police staffing increases in the past few years.
The reports deal with Part-1 crimes which are identified by the Department of Justice as rape, robbery, aggravated assault, arson, burglary, theft, and motor vehicle theft.
Police Chief John Powell credits his department and the community.
Increased public awareness has helped especially to help in burglary and robbery cases. Burglaries were down 13-percent this fiscal year.
Robberies were down 12 -percent compared to last year.
