Suspect Caught in Convenience Store Robberies

Dothan Police have uncovered a major break in a cluster of recent convenience store robberies. They have arrested a man they say is responsible for four of the incidents.

On Wednesday, police arrested 30-year-old Jerry Waldo Salmon of 906 S. Bell Street in Dothan.

Salmon will be charged with four counts of first degree robbery for the Hobo Pantry’s on Denton Road and Ross Clark Circle, and two Citgo stations.

Dothan Police Chief John Powell said, "The case is still under investigation, but right now, the individual is charged only with these robberies."

Salmon was previously on probation for drug possession, recently getting off.

Dothan Police Corporal Doug MaGill said, "When I interviewed him today, he said he's got a drug habit, a drug problem and he's an alcoholic, and he's robbing stores to get money to purchase crack cocaine."

It turns out that Mr. Salmon never had a gun on hand. He was threatening sales clerks with a hair brush hidden under his sweatshirt.

Police have been using special tactics in order to catch criminals involved in these robberies.

Chief Powell added, "We have unmarked units that are out working the areas, conducting surveillance and are able to respond to any incident that may come up."

Salmon was booked in the Dothan City Jail and was expected to be transferred to the Houston County Jail Wednesday, on a $240,000 bond.

Information from the public also helped lead to this arrest.

Officials urge citizens to continue to leave anonymous tips using Crime Stoppers. The phone number is 793-7000.
