Local Reaction to Stacy Tragic Wreck

News of Siran Stacy’s tragic wreck and the deaths has been heart felt in his hometown of Geneva.

Longtime Geneva High Football fans know him simply as the "Leap".

With just seconds left on the clock in a game against Geneva County in 1986, Siran Stacy propelled himself in the air and over the defensive line for the win.

In the mid-1980's, the running back broke numerous records at Hugh Owen Stadium.

Geneva City School Superintendent, Jim Bixby, was then Siran's football and basketball coach at the school. "My heart goes out to the family. Siran, Pat, Olivia; they are in our prayers. Siran was an outstanding athlete."

For longtime Geneva Physician Dr. Buddy Mitchum and his wife, they were good friends; in fact, they traveled to all of the University of Alabama games.

"After a game, he would bring some of the players by our motor home, and they would eat,” Mitchum says. “He was the same age as one of our sons. It felt that he was a member of our family."

Following several brushes with the law, Siran credits God with "changing his heart". He, along with several former Tide players would travel the state speaking to youth groups.

A family friend, Mary Terry said, "I want everyone to know, I am not eulogizing him. He will not die until he has done the work of God. He is a beautiful young man, a beautiful young man."

Following his days at the University of Alabama, Siran spent time playing pro football in both Canada and Europe.

It should be noted that some 20 odd years after playing high school football, Siran Stacy still owns several all-time rushing records in the Wiregrass.

My prayer is for the entire families involved. Pat Stacy (Sirans Brother)and I are classmates, as well as friends. My heart goes out to my Sister in law Felita, 1st Cousin to Siran, my neices. My brother who was crying on yestarday, while I was talking to him, it hard to hear a man cry. We all need to continue to keep God as the head of our lives and he will see us through. If God allows you to rise in the mornings wake up with a beautiful attitude, tell your family you love them, give them a hug and a kiss, Nothing is worse that to wish you had said something nice to family and friends, when they are gone. God makes NO MISTAKES !! But PRAYER CHANGES EVERYTHING !! Glenda Brown and family, Stacy family and family of Sirans wife God Knows I love you all !! Always look to the hill which is where all your help and strength WILL come from.

My prayers are with Siran that the grace of Jesus will comfort him and his extended family. And may we all this Thanksgiving love and hold and encourage everyone at our family gatherings b/c life on earth is too short to NOT say I love you. I am proud of you. You bless me. You can do it. May God fill Siran's heart today and in all the days ahead.

The Stacy & Bible families are in our prayers. I can't imagine the heartache, but I know a God who heals all wounds and brings peace when we feel peace can't be found.

His daughter Lequisa was an outstanding athlete as well, not as well known but on a scholarship to play college ball. She definately got her speed from her daddy! They have always been great people! MR. Siran often played in the Children's Hospital Benifit softball game held at Westgate every year. There is going to be a candlelight prayer service at the square in hartford at 6:00pm on November 21, 2007. This is going to provide time for the friends and family to come together and pray for Siran and his family. The classmates of Lequisa are going to be here and we encourage others to come and pray with us.

This was a tragic accident. My heart goes out to Siran Stacy. Why does your news story seem to be written as if he had died? He is alive! The tone and the way it was reported makes it seem like his life was lost. His wife and children deserved a few minutes of mourning don't you think?
