Troy Collision Avoidance Training Program

A new program in Troy hopes to reduce fatal accidents in the Wiregrass area.

Troy announced the Collision Avoidance Training Program, which was started seven years ago and is designed to reduce crashes, injuries and deaths among many young teens.

The program consists of a 12 hour, two day course that gives the teens a chance to have hands on learning experience behind the wheel. Plus, learn what to do in emergency situations like skid recovery and emergency braking.

Paul Burris with the National Traffic Safety Academy says the program has saved many lives, both teens and adults.

He says an added advantage to the program is the high chance of your insurance going down.

“That I consider [being] a sideline or benefit. You could say the real benefit is that we're preparing your kids for a situation that could someday save their life,” said Burris.

Burris says although there have been accidents that have occurred since the program started, they have only been property damages involving a single vehicle.

If you would like more information about the program, call the Troy Police Department at 566-0500.
