Prosecutors are seeking to hold a Kansas woman without bond pending trial on charges she killed a pregnant woman and stole her fetus.
Lisa Montgomery of Melvern, Kansas, is set to appear today before a federal judge in Kansas City, Kansas, to hear the charge of kidnapping resulting in death. She later is to be transferred to Missouri, where the charge has been filed.
Authorities say Montgomery has confessed to strangling Bobbie Jo Stinnett of Skidmore, Missouri, last Thursday, cutting out the fetus and taking the baby back to Kansas, where she tried to pass the child off as her own.
The baby was recovered unharmed on Friday. Though one month premature, a hospital spokesman says Victoria Jo Stinnett is in "remarkably good" condition.
